About BetterWispr
BetterWispr is a dictation app for macOS. You hold a shortcut (Option+Space by default), speak, and the cleaned-up text is typed into whichever app you were using. Speech is transcribed on the Mac by built-in models from Apple speech, Parakeet and Whisper, or you can point it at your own Sarvam AI, Smallest AI or OpenAI-compatible API. It can drop filler words and false starts, apply a different tone per app, follow spoken commands like "new paragraph" or "scratch that", and learn names and terms you correct. A notetaker mode transcribes your mic and other apps separately and writes summaries and action items with Apple Intelligence or Ollama. It is free, open source and needs no account.
