Schist is an open source raster image editor with brushes, transforms, selections and filters. It includes 134 filters modelled on Photoshop's Filter menu, Filter Gallery and Neural Filters, each with a live preview and GPU processing, opens Photoshop and Affinity files, and can load Photoshop plugins. If Codex or Claude Code is installed, an agent can edit the canvas while you watch. There are downloads for Linux (AppImage, deb, rpm and Arch packages), Windows and macOS, plus a version to try in the browser. The code is MIT licensed on GitHub, where the project is marked as alpha, and development is funded through one-time backer contributions.
