Drop creates disposable sandboxed environments on Linux, in the spirit of Python's virtualenv. Each environment gets its own home directory while your real home stays hidden, but it reuses your existing distribution, so programs you already have installed work without building a container image. It is aimed at running coding agents with permission prompts turned off, or trying packages from npm or PyPI, without exposing SSH keys, your home directory or local network services. It runs without root inside a Linux user namespace, drops capabilities before starting the program, and can optionally run programs on the gVisor user-space kernel for an extra layer of isolation. A TOML config sets which files, directories and local services are visible. Drop is open source under Apache 2.0 and installs as a single binary from GitHub releases or with Go.
