Use S3 buckets as POSIX file systems and block devices
ZeroFS turns any S3-compatible bucket into storage that ordinary systems can mount. A single userspace process serves files over NFS and 9P and raw block devices over NBD, so Linux, macOS, Windows and the BSDs can mount it with clients they already ship, and you can even build a ZFS pool on top. Data is written as immutable segments that are compressed and encrypted before upload, with a local cache for reads. It works with Amazon S3, Google Cloud Storage, Azure Blob, other S3-compatible stores or local disk. The project documents its testing, which includes pjdfstest, xfstests, Jepsen and deterministic simulation runs. ZeroFS is open source under AGPL-3.0 and installs through apt, dnf, a script or Docker.
